Starting My Blog

Hello everyone, my name is Viviana Borroel. I'm born and raised in Las Vegas, NV. I am currently a student at the College of Southern Nevada (CSN) pursing a Forensic Cybersecurity Degree.

My first impression of the IS101 course has been positive. I had never experienced a professor reach out to students prior to the classes starting, so at first it seemed strange to me, but in a good way. Despite the fact that the course is quite demanding, the professor has made it very organized and straightforward to ensure each and everyone of his students have all the tools they need to succeed.

For Discussion 2 Part 2, I chose 1.3.12 Outlook Facts. I chose this topic because it's something some of us use on a daily basis. Outlook does a lot more than just send/receive emails. It has features for creating contacts, auto response messages, tracking notes and tasks, etc.

  1. Very glad to hear I have made IS101-3005, Spring 2026 very organized and straightforward to ensure each and every one of students have all the tools they need and thank you for recognizing my individual outreach to each student before the semester began ^_^

You definitely started the semester strong by proactively working ahead to qualify to take -- and pass -- the first Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification exam one month ahead of schedule!

Keep up the excellent work, Viviana :-)

  2. Hi Viviana, honestly I am not very organized with Outlook or email in general. If you saw my Yahoo inbox, it probably has over 9,000 messages sitting there. My Outlook is not much better, I think it has a few thousand messages since I started using it around 2017. When we had to clean it up for the A1 assignment, it took me a long time. Archiving old emails was more work than I expected because there were just so many of them. I never really paid attention to folders or organization before this class. It made me realize how messy my digital habits actually are. Keeping the inbox clean sounds simple, but when it builds up over years it becomes a project. Now I understand why learning Outlook features can actually matter.

  3. The background for your blog makes solidifies the idea that you are really interested in Forensic Cybersecurity. I also am going for a Cybersecurity degree but for Network security. It is strange to have the professors reach out but that is something that differentiates the experience in the class. It helps students like us succeed as it gives more engagement to our class and succeed in it.

  4. Hello Viviana! We have talked a little before, not sure if you remember. Maybe a bit out of topic, but I want to say that I hope you know that you are a very smart and talented individual! And I'm sure you are capable of doing a presentation, and you're going to do a really amazing job. I know it's hard to face things that makes us anxious or fearful, but we have to try to see and know that we can conquer and/or do anything as long as we try our best :)

  5. Hi Viviana, it’s nice to learn a little about your background and that you’re pursuing a degree in Forensic Cybersecurity. I also had a similar impression about the class and Professor Wu reaching out to students before the semester started, it definitely felt different but in a positive way because it shows he wants students to succeed. I really enjoyed learning about Outlook as well, especially the rules feature, which I found very helpful for staying organized since I use Outlook a lot. I think it’s great that you chose this topic because many people use email every day but don’t always realize how many tools Outlook has to help manage messages, contacts, and tasks.

  6. Hi Viviana,

It’s cool that we’re both going into cybersecurity. My program is a little different because I’m focusing more on networking, but it’s still in the same field. Cybersecurity and networking go really well together, so it’s interesting to see how people approach the field from different areas.

I also thought it was interesting that the professor reached out before the class started. It definitely isn’t something you see in every course, but it does make the class feel more organized and supported. Even though the assignments can be demanding, having everything clearly structured helps a lot.

Your choice about Outlook was a good one too. A lot of people only think of it as an email app, but it actually has many useful tools like managing contacts, tasks, and reminders. Those features can really help with staying organized for school or work.

  7. Hi Viviana, Forensic Cybersecurity seems super in-depth and complicated, It's something I've never considered as a career option. It's great that we have people like you interested in these areas so we can feel safer online. It gave me a big shock to see a professor reach out before the semester officially started, it really took me off guard. It shows the effort he's willing to put in to guiding the students towards success. I didn't know much about outlook at all or how the user could personalize and organize their inbox in so many different ways. Despite having a learning curve it's a great tool to keep up with school while sifting through so many other unimportant emails.

  8. Hi Viviana! That’s really cool that you’re working toward a Forensic Cybersecurity degree. I’m glad your first impression of the class has been positive. I’ve never had a professor reach out before classes start either. I used to think Gmail was easier to use, but the more I learn about Outlook, the more I appreciate how useful and complete it is.

  9. Viviana, Outlook is more useful than I thought. I used to use it only for reading and sending emails. Now, I also use it to keep track of tasks that I need to do and to save people’s contact information.

  11. Viviana, seeing your background already gave a great idea what you may find interesting. Cyber Security is truly a great degree. The outlook facts also opened my eyes, as i went out of my way to learn those same facts through the software I use and implement them.

  12. Hello Viviana, your introduction was clear and pleasant to read. I like how you highlighted both the challenges and the strong organization of the IS101 course.
Your choice of Outlook Facts was a good one, and you explained its usefulness in a simple and practical way.

  13. Hey Viviana, with using Outlook, I've used Gmail for soo long and Google things, but ever since starting class I've been starting to lean towards outlook and edge, who knows what I'll be using but if you didn't know try ratemyprofessor.com and that way you can see which professors like Professor Wu, are looked kindly upon by students!

  14. Hi Viviana, The Outlook portion was really helpful because until last semester, I've never used Outlook. I especially love the rules that Prof. Wu showed us. Good luck with your college journey!

  15. Hi Viviana, I really like your blog design it truly captures your interest visually which is fun to see. Forensics is a very interesting field to work in, I used to be interested in pursuing a career in this field but I don't think I'm cut out for it. Nice to see you know exactly what your future plans are.

  16. Hi Viviana, I really like your blog design, it fits well with the Forensic Cybersecurity Degree you are pursing. I also never had a professor reach out to me before classes starting, which honestly makes this class stand out from the rest. Having a positive mindset early on with this course is a good sign you'll do well in achieving your goals. Have a great semester!
